The Allergy and Sinus Center was established to provide the highest quality medical care for your sinus and nasal problems at a location close to home. We provide diagnostic services to pinpoint what you are allergic to, and then provide a wide variety of treatment options to suit your needs.
Allergy is a genetic predisposition plus exposure, both must be present for allergic symptoms to occur. With continued exposure the allergic reaction tends to get worse over time. Allergy is a disease which affects the whole body, but head and neck symptoms are among the most common. It is present in nearly half of patients with chronic sinus problems and is a major contributing factor to their disease.
Diagnosis is made by history and exam, then confirmed by testing. We prefer blood vs. skin testing for the convenience for our patients. Here are the differences in the two allergy testing methods:

| Blood Testing vs. | Skin Testing |
| One needle stick | Many needle sticks |
| 10-15 minutes test | 1-2 hours duration |
| No need to stop meds | Must be off all meds for 2 weeks |
| No risk of reaction | slight risk of serious reaction |

Hints:
Avoid known allergens when possible. Reduction of exposure causes reduction in allergic reaction and symptoms. This works best for dust mites. pets, and molds. Always wash exposed areas of your skin when returning in from outdoors.
Medications are given to help reduce symptoms. Allergy Immunotherapy helps to re-train the immune system, which is the only treatment that can change the natural coarse of the allergic process.
*Did you know????? It takes a few to several months to get substantial symptom relief and takes a few years to get long-standing relief? That local, unprocessed honey - can sometimes help with some pollen allergy symptom?
Allergy shots-standard in US are. very effective. There are some risks of reaction and it is very inconvenient (weekly shots in the office). Here at Greenwood ENT, we offer sublingual (under the tongue) Allergy drops - that can be taken at home! No need to come to the office on a weekly basis! This, we feel, is the future of allergy treatment. It has been well proven in Europe.....just as effective as shots; safer than shots; more convenient than shots; less expensive than shots; but not yet covered by medical insurance.
Just remember....you don't have to suffer with allergies any longer! Call Greenwood ENT to schedule your appointment for the one-stick allergy test.
